School Based Health Centers
Open Door Family Medical Centers has been providing primary health care services to students of the Port Chester-Rye school district since 2004 through the School Based Health Centers (SBHCs). JFK Magnet School, Edison Elementary School, Park Avenue School, Port Chester Middle School and Port Chester Senior High School are homes to Open Door SBHCs.
SBHCs are doctor’s offices in the schools, providing primary health care services where the students are and when they need it. With parents’ permission, the health centers provide primary health care services such as physicals, immunizations, wellness visits, chronic disease management, hearing and vision screenings,and mental health screenings. SBHCs help students and their families manage significant health concerns, like asthma and obesity before they lead to bigger problems.
At Open Door we believe that health care is a right, not a privilege. All students are eligible to receive health care services at the SBHCs, the only requirement is parental consent. The SBHCs work cooperatively with the schools collaborating on issues affecting children in and out of the classroom in an effort to ensure their personal and academic successes. Our goal is to keep children healthy and in school.
The Future Health Care Leaders (FHL) program is a collaboration with the 21st Century Visions program of the Port Chester High School. All Port Chester High School students are eligible to register for the FHL summer program. The goal of the program is to introduce students to various careers and opportunities in the health care field. Learn more.
