Lindsay C. Farrell, MBA, FACMPE, President and CEO
At the request of the Bureau of Primary Health Care, Ms. Farrell was a member of the expert panel initiating the patient visit redesign collaborative directed by the Bureau’s Quality Center; she has significant experience and a commitment to efficient health center operations and population health management. Ms. Farrell is a member of the Board of Directors of the Community Health Care Association of New York State, Hudson Health Plan, Bronx/Westchester Area Health Education Center and of the Port Chester Council of Community Services. She is also Chair of the Westchester Women’s Agenda.
Anita Wilenkin, MPH, Chief Operating Officer
Anita Wilenkin joined Open Door in July of 2008. As the Chief Operating Officer, she brings over 20 years of progressively responsible experience in health care management; the last eight years having been in the complex and challenging community health center environment. In this position she manages the day to day operations of Open Door’s four health centers and services whose mission is to bring medical, dental, mental health, and supportive services to the Westchester communities in need of affordable, accessible, quality health care for the poor and uninsured.
She has a Masters Degree in Public Health from Columbia University, a Master of Arts in Speech/Language Pathology from Hunter College of the City University of New York and a Bachelor’s Degree from the State University of New York – Albany. She is a member of the American Public Health Association, the American College of Healthcare Executives. She currently serves as a Board Member of the NYAAC- New York Association for Ambulatory Care.
Maria Mazzotta, CPA, Chief Financial Officer
Maria Mazzotta, CPA has worked at Open Door since 1992 having served as the organization’s senior accountant. Promoted to Chief Financial Officer in 2003, Ms. Mazzotta has had full responsibility for the financial management of the center including the development of the operating budget, monthly financial reports to management and the Board, internal controls, compliance and operating procedures, the annual audit, and cost and activity reports to government agencies. Prior to Open Door, Ms. Mazzotta worked at Jeffrey T. Latman and Co. as an auditor. She received her Bachelor of Science in accounting from St. John’s University and is a Certified Public Accountant.
Daren Wu, MD, Chief Medical Officer
Daren Wu, MD, is the Chief Medical Officer (CMO). Prior to his appointment as CMO, Dr. Wu was the Medical Director of Open Door’s Family Health Practice at Northern Westchester Hospital in Mount Kisco and a staff physician at Open Door’s Rye Brook site. As CMO, Dr. Wu oversees the quality of clinical care and service delivered at all sites; directs the recruitment and review of physicians and allied healthcare workers; interfaces with community groups and affiliated hospital administrations; and provides a clinical perspective when collaborating with senior management on the operations of the organization.
Dr. Wu is the Physician Leader for Open Door’s Diabetes Collaborative, a program that oversees the care and management of Open Door’s 800 diabetic patients. He is also a Family Medicine Preceptor for students from New York Medical College in Valhalla. His academic responsibilities include teaching third-year medical students the continuity of care model practiced across the broad range of Family Medicine.
Dr. Wu is a graduate of SUNY Stony Brook School of Medicine and received his Bachelor of Arts from Columbia University in New York City. He completed his internship and residency in the Columbia Presbyterian Hospital of New York. He is a Board Certified Family Practice Physician who is proficient in Spanish and is fluent in Mandarin Chinese.
Janet Bozzone, DMD, MPH, FAGD, Director of Dentistry
Janet Bozzone, DMD, MPH, FAGD has over 25 years experience in community-based dental programs treating underserved populations in New York State. Previously at Montefiore’s Comprehensive Family Care Center in the Bronx, she has served as our Director of Dentistry at Open Door Family Medical Center since 2001. Dr. Bozzone oversees the quality of oral health care and service delivery at all sites and she directs the review and recruitment of all dental providers and support staff. Dr Bozzone is responsible for promoting the integration of oral health with our medical practice as a critical component to overall wellness.
Dr. Bozzone received her Bachelor of Arts in Biological Sciences from Herbert Lehman College and her Doctor of Dental Medicine from Fairleigh Dickenson University, School of Dentistry. She completed a General Practice Dental Residency at Montefiore Medical Center and is a Fellow in the Academy of General Dentistry. She received her Master of Public Health from the University of North Carolina – Chapel Hill in 2007, and was the 2008 recipient of their Jacob Koomar Public Health Practice award.
She is the principal site investigator and coordinator for clinical dental research projects conducted at Open Door under the auspices of the Clinical Directors Network (CDN) and PEARL (Practitioners Engaged in Applied Research and Learning) Network. The PEARL Network is a practice-based research initiative supported by a grant from the National Institute of Health to develop evidenced-based treatment protocols which can be translated into daily clinical practice. Dr. Bozzone currently serves on the board of directors for two organizations committed to the reduction of health care disparities and the promotion of increased health equity; Clinical Directors Network (www.cdnetwork.org) andthe National Network for Oral Health Access (www.nnoha.org).
Shonny Capodilupo, LCSW, Director of Behavioral Health
Shonny Capodilupo, L.C.S.W., came to Open Door from Family Services of Westchester, having had extensive experience in outpatient mental health treatment and clinical administration. Her duties as Director of Behavioral Health include clinical and administrative supervision of mental health staff; mental health educators; nutritionist and marketing coordinator as well as oversight of HIV programming. She supervises the coordinator and is a member of the Executive Committee of the Ossining Communities That Care coalition; she is responsible for the nationally regarded 4–Our Children Program which identifies the social, emotional and behavioral problems of children in a primary care setting; and assists in the operation and guidance of the organization as a member of senior management.
She received her Masters in social work from Fordham University. She is an adjunct faculty member for the Post Master’s Certificate Program in Child and Family Therapy at New York University – Silver School of Social Work.
Ellette Hirschorn, RN, Director of Clinical Support Services and Programs
Ellette Hirschorn, RN, joined Open Door in 2001 as the Director of Clinical Support Services and Programs, having had extensive prior experience in patient care and access, staff oversight, and infection control. As Director of Clinical Support Services and Programs, Ms. Hirschorn supervises patient access to clinical care; coordinates health promotion/disease prevention activities; develops and monitors competency assessment programs within the clinical support team to ensure high levels of staff competency; develops and implements an organization-wide infection control program in accordance with OSHA, federal and state guidelines, as well as CDC, APIC, and JCAHO standards; oversees Open Door’s four School Based Health Centers in Port Chester; and ensures that patient education programs meet the need of the community.
Ms. Hirschorn received her BSN from New York University. In addition to being a licensed registered nurse, she is a certified BCLS instructor and holds memberships in the American Association of Critical Care Nurses, Directors of Nursing in Long Term Care, New York State Nurses Association, American Nurses Association, and the Intravenous Nurses Association. In 2008 she was awarded a health care heroes award by Greenwich Hospital’s for her coordination of youth programs in the Port Chester Schools.
Pamela Ferrari, RN, Director of Performance Improvement
Pamela Ferrari, RN, joined Open Door in 2000 as the Director of Performance Improvement after 20 years with the Visiting Nurses of Hudson Valley. Ms. Ferrari has extensive experience in Performance Improvement and outcome measurement. While with the VNA, Ms. Ferrari coauthored a paper published in Home Health Care Nurse, “Outcome Measurement from the Functional Status Perspective,” and was a JCAHO Codman Award semifinalist.
At Open Door Ms. Ferrari chairs the Performance Improvement Committee which selects three to five improvement initiatives each year. These improvement initiatives have included: improving prenatal care entry time, improving the percent of HIV positive patients who receive an annual comprehensive exam, and for 2006, improving percentage of Open Door Patients who have appropriate screening for breast cancer, colon cancer and cervical cancer.
Since leading a team to improve prenatal entry time, Ms. Ferrari has remained as the administrative leader of the (PCAP) prenatal care assistance program. Ms. Ferrari leads the “Health Disparities Collaborative” initiatives at Open Door and in this role has traveled extensively to speak to other Community Health Centers on topics such as information technology, planned care, and community coalition building to improve care for patients with chronic disease. Ms. Ferrari is a registered Yoga teacher and has taught in Briarcliff Manor for the last 6 years.
Desta Lakew, MPH, CFRE, Director of Development
Desta Lakew has served as Director of Development since 2006, overseeing all of Open Door’s fundraising efforts as well as community relations working directly with the Foundation Board. In 2001 she joined Open Door as the Director of Marketing with overall responsibility for patient marketing including community outreach, relationship building with other community providers and promoting services to attract new patients to the Center.
Prior to joining Open Door, Ms. Lakew spent a year working with a local nonprofit affordable housing organization as Director of Development. She has had over 15 years of experience working with major health care organizations in New York. Ms. Lakew has a Bachelor’s Degree from City College (CUNY); a Master’s in Public Health from Hunter College (CUNY); and is a Certified Fundraising Executive (CFRE).
