A Word from the President and Chief Executive Officer
It is my pleasure to welcome you to Open Door Family Medical Centers. For over 40 years Open Door has grown by leaps and bounds to provide health care to people who experience significant barriers. Our mission has remained constant since our humble beginnings in the basement of the First Baptist Church in 1972: to provide quality primary health care and human services at affordable prices to the community, particularly low-income, under-served residents and those lacking access to health care. Today we are among the largest and most capable health care providers in Westchester County, with over 40,000 patients making over 200,000 visits. We believe that health care is a right, not a privilege. We celebrate diversity and respect cultural and linguistic differences. We believe that healthy individuals and families are the foundation of a civil society, and that those empowered to lead healthy lives contribute significantly to the community’s success.
Our work is gaining attention across the country. After remaining a long standing recipient of accreditation from The Joint Commission, we were recognized in 2013 for the second time as a Level 3 Patient-Centered Medical Home, and in 2012 as a Recognized Diabetes Practice by the National Committee for Quality Assurance. We were awarded the 2010 Nicholas Davies Award for Community Health by HIMSS, the international Healthcare Information Management Systems Society for our pioneering work in clinical decision support and clinical analytics. With an emphasis on prevention, primary care and integrated behavioral health care, and with clinical analytics for provider and patient feedback, Open Door is indeed a model for bending health care’s cost curve.
It is my hope that after visiting with us you will join Open Door as a patient seeking the best care; as an employee contributing your talents; as a volunteer making a difference; as a supporter investing in our mission and results. And as I’ve come to deeply understand through the years, I know you will learn that being involved in Open Door makes a real difference in many many ways.
